A special traffic plan will be in force in Colombo, on 4 February, in view of the 69th Independence Day celebrations.
Thus, from 5 a.m. to 12 noon on Independence Day, Galle Road, between the Galle Face Roundabout to the Old Parliament and Chaithya Road will be closed. The same roads will be closed today from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.
No one, apart from residents and office workers, will be allowed to travel towards Galle Face Roundabout from Colpetty Junction, towards Galle Road from St. Michael's Roundabout, towards Galle Road from Rotunda Gardens, towards Old Parliament from Ceramic Junction, towards Bank of Ceylon from York Street, towards the CTO Junction from the Fort Railway Station, towards Ceramic Junction from the CTO Junction and towards the Galle Face Roundabout from Uttarananda Mawatha Junction. Meanwhile, from 8 a.m. to noon on 4 February, the road from Slave Island Police Roundabout to Regal Junction will be closed and the public will be prohibited to enter D.R. Wijewardene Mawatha from the Gamini Hall Roundabout. The Police add that heavy vehicles, coming from Galle Road, will be able to enter Colombo through Old Havelock Road (via W.A. de Silva Mawatha), Maya Junction, Havelock Road and Baseline Road. They can leave using the same route. Light Vehicles and buses entering Colombo (via Galle Road) will be able to reach Fort through Bagatalle Road, R.A. de Mel Mawatha, Bauddaloka Mawatha, Thunmulla Junction, Thurstan Road, JOC Junction, Glass House Junction, Nanda Motors, Horton Place Roundabout, Zoysa Roundabout, Deans Road and Technical Junction. From 9 a.m. they can enter Fort via Colpetty Junction, Pittala Junction and Slave Island. They can leave Colombo via Olcott Road, Technical Junction, Maradana Bridge Junction, T.B. Jayah Mawatha, Ibbanwala Junction, Union Place, Lipton Junction, Dharmapala Mawatha, F.R. Senanayake Mawatha, Kannangara Mawatha, Nanda Motors Junction, Independence Roundabout, Reid Avenue, Thunmulla Roundabout, R.A. de Mel Mawatha and Galle Road.
