President Maithripala Sirisena has appointed Supreme Court judges K.T. Chithrasiri, and P.S. Jayawardena and retired Deputy Auditor General K. Velupillai as members of the Special Presidential Commission of Inquiry to investigate and report on the Central Bank bond scams, the Presidential Secretariat announced yesterday.
The appointment has been made in the wake of President Sirisena’s declaration that the ongoing police probe into the Central Bank bond scams wasn’t acceptable to him. The President called for an investigation on the basis of the fraud being a criminal act.
